Suicidal thoughts: what to do

If you are contemplating suicide, please consider the following options:
-
Call 1-800-SUICIDE (toll free in North America) or
call your local 24-hour crisis or suicide hotline.
Crisis lines are normally listed under Mental Health
or under Suicide Prevention in your Yellow Pages. Operators
are specially trained in crisis intervention and suicide prevention
and can help provide you with advice and support.
-
Go to your nearest hospital emergency room.
Staff will ensure your safety and provide you with medical
attention, as well as emotional and psychological support.
They may admit you to hospital, or they may refer you to clinics
or counseling centers in your community. Your hospital will
have abundant resource information to help you.
-
Tell someone you know and trust and be sure he/she can help
you find immediate help.
Ensure that person is also willing and available to help
you after an acute suicidal attack has passed.
