Lingerie Q&A: insist on just the right fit

Are you wearing the wrong
size bra?(NC)-Are you wearing the wrong size bra? Varying research confirms that as many as 75 per cent of North American women may reach for the wrong size when buying this garment. Mistakes are likely due to guesswork and habit—and to a general reluctance to ask for assistance at the time of purchase.

"Getting the proper fit is critical to your shape, posture, comfort and well-being," says Patricia McMillan, spokesperson for Triumph International (Canada) Inc. "So here are some tips to ensure a "Triumph Fit" for optimum comfort and figure enhancement.

First, do note that while wearing a bra, two different measurements are required. One will determine the band size and the other is for the cup. The band measurement is done around the ribcage, directly under the breasts. The cup size is taken across the fullest part of the bust (high point), under the arms and below the shoulder blades. Test for the fit as follows:

  • Stand facing a full-length mirror and lean forward. Let your breasts fall freely into the cups before the bra is fastened.
  • Give the bra a firm tug at the back until it is low enough to anchor under the shoulder blades.
  • Adjust the straps so they give a firm but comfortable lift to the bust, permitting one finger to run smoothly under the straps.
  • Your flesh should not be crowded under the arms, at the centre front or back, nor above the cups.
  • If the bra stays in place when you sit, stand, twist, or lift your arms, it fits.

Fashion news: what in the world is the umph factor?

(NC)-Those who admire well-crafted, shapely lingerie already know about the umph factor—and if it makes you think instantly of predominant female curves and cleavage, then watch this fall to have that image heartily confirmed.

Umph, say fashion industry sources, is scheduled to show up in magazines, in newspapers and on billboards across the country. The campaign is designed so that once the full promotion is said and done, never again will you simply see the name Triumph without thinking: Tri (umph). It is a name in lingerie fashion that has long been committed to maximizing female curves.

"We have several collections that deliver the umph of a powerful, poised cleavage," says Patricia McMillan, spokesperson for Triumph International (Canada) Inc. "Our Curves collection—comprised of Smooth Curves, Beauty Curves, Shiny Curves and Dangerous Curves—are all cleverly designed to create decollete and uplift, the essentials for eye-catching, umph.

"Smooth Curves, for example, is lightly lined with a deep plunge, a scalloped cup for maximum exposure, and it also features a moulded, polyurethane underwire in a soft plush fabrication. It is matched by a modern low-rise brief in ultra soft fabric with lattice trim. Dangerous Curves has a graduated cup with built-in cookies creating a provocative bust shape. The seam-free, laser-cut sides provide sleek, no-show comfort. The elegant spaghetti-style straps and feminine rosette detail, dress up the 'edgy' design. This collection has a matched hipster brief in a cool light fabric."
