Articles

At Women's Web, we believe we can not only create unique content but that by doing so, we can also allow girls' and women's voices to resonate with sincerity, conviction and passion.

Our authors have knowledge and expertise in a broad range of areas, from parenting and body image to relationships and nutrition … and everything in between.

Authors and contributors

Article submissions

Launched in April 2004, Women's Web is an online community for women whose focus is on providing quality content and up-to-date information on contemporary women’s issues and topics such as health, career, diet and nutrition, parenting, pregnancy, human sexuality, and violence against women.

By fostering a nurturing environment in which users can find woman-to-woman support and by inviting article submissions, we believe we can create content that is not only uniquely our own but that also allows girls' and women's voices to resonate with sincerity, conviction and passion.

Word count and article summary

We're looking for submissions from independent writers to be featured on our website. Articles should be engaging, informative, and well researched, as well as hip, savvy, and injected with humor. Article submissions should not exceed 1,000 words.

Please include with every submission a summary statement of one or two sentences that describes what the article is about. If your article is selected for publication on Women's Web, this summary will be used as the "teaser" to pique readers' interest.

Submit only your original works

Submitted articles must be the author's original work; derivative or plagiarized works will not be accepted. Where sources are used, they must be correctly cited. By submitting works to Women's Web, you guarantee that the pieces submitted are your original works and thereby agree to hold Women's Web, its agents, affiliates, partners, employees, and directors harmless in the event of any actions brought forward because of copyright infringement or similar infringement on another's intellectual property rights.

Non-commercial and non-partisan

Because Women's Web is non-partisan, non-commercial, and pro-choice, we cannot publish works with strong political or religious affiliations, nor can we print works with a strictly pro-life slant. Articles, while they may make mention of a particular product or products, should also be of some benefit to our readers; we will not publish works of a highly commercial nature (i.e., pitches, plugs, and "infomercials").

House style

Writers should heed the following guidelines in relation to preferred house style:

  • Punctuation should be closed: there should be no space before or after em-dashes.
  • Ranges should be represented using an en-dash rather than a hyphen. (e.g., Statistics show that 89–95 percent of children polled dislike tuna casserole; you can use 3–5 tablespoons of cayenne pepper in this recipe; Joseph Doppleganger was president of the APUSB during the 1998–1999 academic year.)
  • Please disable "Smart Quotes" if using Microsoft Word for document formatting.
  • In titles and headings, please capitalize only those words longer than four letters; prepositions and pronouns do not require capitalization.
  • Numbers between one and nine should be written out; any numbers above 10 should be represented using numerals.
  • Titles such as Mr., Mrs., and Dr. should all bear a period; Ms should not.
  • Acronyms such as US, USSR, UN, and YMCA should not use periods.
  • Credentials, academic titles, and designations such as EdD, PhD, BSc, MA, and so on should not use periods.
  • Please use series commas when enumerating items in a list; this includes use of a comma after the penultimate (second-last) item.
  • Please review submissions for proper grammar and punctuation: subject-verb agreement, pronoun-antecedent agreement, correct spelling, proper use of contractions, etc.

Press releases

Press releases are also welcome, and these should contain the name(s) and contact information of the person(s) to whom inquiries should be addressed.
